Also included in the 2017 version, is the previously mentioned seamless knit upper allowing full comfort with reduced weight. The new EVA midsole 3D Torsion increases that all-important midsole cushioning and comfort with lightweight and adaptable support.

What features do adidas Barricade athletic shoes for men include?

While the 2016 Barricade wasn't much different than the 2015 version, in 2017, adidas completely overhauled the Barricades. The 2017 Barricade is lighter than previous versions and the mid-sole padding is thicker for better arch support. The signature Barricade chassis offers the same stability and support that previous versions featured. The bottom sole protects against high wear. To protect against foot drag, abrasion-resistant material wraps around the medial forefoot and toes.

What materials are these tennis shoes made from?

The previously mentioned abrasion-resistant toe and medial forefoot wraps are made from adidas' proprietary Adituff rubber. The sole of the Barricade is made from a similar material, known as Adiwear 6 Outsole, that helps improve traction on hard surfaces. It is also non-marking regardless of the color.

The synthetic leather of the chassis helps make these waterproof tennis shoes a lighter weight. The Barricade uses Adiprene+ for the full length of the shoes, which adds extra padding, support, comfort, and breathability.

Why did adidas discontinue the Barricade line?

Although the Barricade line of adidas shoes can be used with several types of sports, the Barricade has mostly been synonymous with the game of tennis. In 2000, adidas launched this shoe line as an answer to the changes in the game. adidas wanted to create new tennis shoes that fit the everchanging playstyles of people like popular Serbian tennis player, Novak Djokovic. Djokovic began to play with a style of sliding on a hard court, the same way others might slide on a clay court.

Taking these new playstyles into consideration is what led to the Barricade's success. As newer styles of play need to be considered for the next Barricade version adidas is taking time off to completely rebuild this shoe line from the ground up.
