Chevrolet Malibu Sway Bars

Chevrolet Malibu sway bars are an important part of your vehicle’s safety, and should not be left unrepaired. In your Chevrolet Malibu and other cars, the sway bar is a suspension part that keeps the car stable to reduce the risk of a rollover. The Malibu has both a front and rear sway bar for added safety and better handling.

If the front sway bar on your Chevrolet Malibu breaks, youll notice a change in the way the car handles. The steering will feel looser and you may feel as though you have less control over the vehicle than normal. A broken rear sway bar will make itself felt when you are driving around corners or changing lanes. The car will rock back and forth, or sway, more than usual. Driving with a broken sway bar is generally not recommended. These bars can also break if the metal that comprises them becomes fatigued. This may occur after an automobile accident. Although the Malibus suspension may have appeared fine immediately after the incident, a slight bend or twist in the car could put undue pressure on the bar, causing it to fail over time.

Although most drivers will be satisfied with the factory Chevrolet sway bars on their Malibu, others may wish to upgrade their suspension. A stiffer sway bar will reduce under-steer in front-wheel-drive cars (post-1997 Malibu models) and help decrease over-steer on rear-wheel-drive cars. While most drivers arent likely to notice much difference, those who enjoy an occasional track day with their Chevrolet Malibu can better match their car to their personal driving style with sway bar upgrades.
