Jeep Wrangler Sun Visors

Jeep Wrangler sun visors come in a variety of styles. Each one serves a slightly different purpose. Cleaning your sun visors periodically can help them last longer and remain more effective.

What styles of sun visors are available?

Several different styles of sun visors are available for the Jeep Wrangler, including painted, flip-down, and portable.

  • Painted sun visors are applied to the top of the Wrangler’s windshield. They begin as an opaque, dark strip at the top to block out sun coming in through the windshield head-on and fade gradually to clear over a short series of dots or a smooth gradient, depending on the model year. These are relatively uniform patterns and cover the space between flip-down visors.
  • Jeep flip-down visors are installed over the driver’s and front passenger’s seats. They are designed to flip both down and to the left or right to block sun coming in through the front glass and the side window. These Jeep visors are typically fairly durable. They often include a small mirror flanked by two small lights and are covered by a plastic flap or sliding door. These flip-down visors come in all different shades to match the Wrangler’s interior.
  • Portable Jeep visors are built to fold up accordion style and to sit in the front glass of a Jeep Wrangler when it is parked and powered off. A reflective side faces outward to keep the interior of the vehicle cool and to protect privacy. These portable visors are available in all different shades and patterns.
What materials are sun visors made from?

Wrangler painted visors are, predictably, made solely from paint applied to the front glass. Flip-down visors can be made from hard plastic or from textiles depending on the interior of the vehicle. The mirror portion is made from reflective glass, and any lights are typically made from varying types of plastic. Portable sun visors can be made from a variety of different synthetic blends including neon and even metallic finishes on the reflective portion. Sometimes velcro is used to fasten the visor together when it is not in use.

How do you clean sun visors?

Smooth plastic flip-down visors, painted styles, and portable models can be wiped down with a damp cloth. Feel free to add a little soap to lift any stains or spills. Flip-down visors made from other textiles with any sort of pile can be vacuumed with an appropriate attachment and spot-cleaned with a damp cloth or a mixture of soap and water. Blot any spots until they begin to lift. Hard-water stains can be removed from the mirror portion by mixing a paste of baking soda and vinegar and applying it directly to the mirror. Wait until the paste dries to rinse it away.
