For many Sony devices, you may need batteries to power up and make them work properly. These specific Sony batteries usually come with whatever device youre getting, along with a charging dock to reuse them. Most of the batteries that come with these devices are a lithium-ion battery in which they have the largest capacity to hold a charge and last the longest.
What Are the Features of a Lithium Rechargeable Battery?
- Voltage. These lithium ion batteries can produce a total of 1.5 voltage to 3.7 voltage. The typical voltage for any battery that can recharge is usually 1.5V such as the ones you would find in a camera. Camera lithium ion batteries are usually AA, which dont exceed the 1.5V.
- Battery capacity. Lithium ion batteries have a higher than average capacity or high charge density which means they have a long life span and can work for a while before needing charging or switching out. This is helpful specifically for camera batteries in cases where you are shooting for long periods of time and cant afford to stop and change out a battery pack. This type of battery can also hold a charge for an extended period of time after constant use and recharging.
- Charging. The battery packs that are rechargeable lithium ion, come with a special charging dock that can plug into a wall. To charge a lithium-ion battery only takes a few hours, which will then have power for several hours of usage. This is not only an environmentally friendly option as you arent dumping batteries into landfills, but you also save money not having to find multiple battery packages.
- Sizing. A lithium-ion battery comes in a few different sizes including the coin-shaped battery. Additionally, there are AA and AAA lithium ion batteries.
What Other Types of Batteries Are There?
- NiCd. This type of battery is relatively environmentally unfriendly as it contains toxic metals in its chemical makeup. However, there are a few positives to this battery in that it has a high life expectancy and discharge rate. It is specifically for power tools, professional video cameras, two-way radios, and biomedical equipment.
- NiMH. This type of battery has a higher energy capacity than the cadmium batteries and more power behind a charge. This battery does not contain any toxic metals, proving to be more environmentally friendly. NiMH batteries are primarily for mobile phones or laptops.
- Lead Acid. This battery is for larger applications where weight is not an issue and the highest amount of power is necessary, such as hospital equipment, wheelchairs, and emergency lighting.
- Lithium Ion Polymer. Lithium ion polymer batteries have the same characteristics as traditional lithium ion batteries however, they have a smaller and sleeker design than the lithium ion. These lithium ion batteries are typically for mobile phones.
