Choosing the Right Artificial Hedges

Artificial hedges allow you to add shrubs and greenery to your entire garden or just select areas with ease. There are numerous hedges to choose from, and finding the right one largely depends on where you're placing them and what you want the hedges to look like. Be sure to go through eBay to see all the new and pre-owned models available at a price that is right for you.

What types of artificial hedges are available?

There are several types of hedges available to choose from, and they each give you a different aesthetic. The most common ones are:

  • Boxwood: This features short, dark green leaves that have a manicured appearance. These look like standard hedges that can easily cover most areas.
  • Ivy: Ivy hedges have longer leaves that are typically light green. They are usually made either for vertical installations or to cover ceilings and areas above the head.
  • Mixed: These combine boxwood, ivy, ferns and other plants for a unique appearance. Each installation has a different variety of plants.
How do you properly measure for artificial hedges?

You must measure the intended installation area before buying the hedges. Measuring isn't difficult, but many people forget to take all of the sides and angles into account. For example, if you are installing the hedges on a fence, then you have to consider whether you want one or both sides covered by the hedge. If both, then you need to double how much you are buying. If you are wrapping the hedges around a pillar or other object, then you have to measure all of the sides.

You must also take height into account. While you can cut the hedges to meet your exact needs, you don't want something that is too short or much larger than your installation area. Get as close as possible and get slightly larger if your exact size isn't available. You should have no problem finding almost any size you need on eBay.

What is the difference between indoor and outdoor hedges?

Most artificial hedges are made for indoor or outdoor installation, though there are some that are only made for one or the other. Indoor hedges are often made with a fire retardant just in case a fire starts in your home. Outdoor hedges are typically made to withstand water and sun damage so that they last as long as possible in the elements. You'll often get the benefits of both with most models. Keep in mind, however, that some are only one or the other.
