The Nike Air Max Sequent 4 Utility Black Anthracite is from Nike's esteemed Air Max collection, created by Tinker Hatfield and first released in 1987. The hallmark of this sneaker line is the visible Air unit in the heel. Tinker Hatfield came up with the idea for this design component after seeing the Pompidou Centre in Paris, which has an architectural style that exposes its pipes, ducts, and other features that are usually hidden.

The Nike Air Max Sequent 4 Utility Black Anthracite sneaker was released in 2018 and stays true to its heritage with a visible Air unit that contrasts starkly with its black and Anthracite colorway. Besides adding an interesting visual element, the Air unit is intended to cushion the wearer's foot and joints from impact while running or during other activities.
