Selecting the Right NED DLP Projector for Your Needs

Video game enthusiasts and movie watchers can use projectors to get the most out of their entertainment choices. In an office or classroom, projectors can help various presentations to larger groups.

What is a DLP projector?

Digital Light Processing, or DLP, projectors contain a chip that is made up of very small mirrors and a spinning color wheel to project an image. These type of NEC machines do not require filters and project a sharp, clean image. The NEC DLP projectors have a quick response time and good 3D capabilities. When using a DLP projector, you can expect a lamp life of about 2000 to 5000 hours.

How many lumens are needed in a projector?

Lumens measure the amount of brightness produced by the projector. The amount you need in a NEC DLP machine depends on the type of content you are projecting, the size of the image, and how bright the room is. Use the guide below to figure out which situation most fits your needs and the brightness level that matches those needs.

  • On the go: 500 or less
  • Small groups of less than 10 people: 700 to 1000
  • Normal size classroom, office, or home theater system: 1000 to 2500
  • Large classrooms and conference rooms: 2500 to 4000
  • Large venues, such as bars, concert halls, auditoriums, or churches: more than 4000
What native resolution do you need?

The higher the native resolution of your NEC projector, the more information you can display on your projection screen. A higher native resolution also produces a clearer and crisper image. If you are using the NEC projector for simple presentations in a smaller group setting, a resolution of 800 X 600 pixels should be enough. If you are using the projector for more advanced presentations or larger images, a higher resolution, such as 1080p may be necessary.

What does the lamp do in a DLP projector?

When selecting a NEC DLP projector, it is important to know the purpose of the lamp. The lamp provides the brightness needed to project an image onto the projection screen. Because of their high light output, these lamp-based machines provide a high amount of brightness for projecting to large rooms or rooms with ambient light.

What is the lens-shift feature?

Some NEC projectors may come with a lens-shift feature. This feature allows you to move the lens up and down and from side to side in order to get your image at the ideal projection spot.
