Ford Expedition Headlights

Headlights are an essential component of driving safety and on-road communication with other drivers. Headlights provide necessary illumination when you are driving in low-light settings and low visibility, but finding the right ones can be tricky. Explore the features and benefits of available types of headlights.

What does IP67 have to do with Ford Expedition headlights?

IP67 is a dust and water safety rating. "IP" stands for international protection, a standard attributed to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). IP safety ratings are now standard on most electronics and electric devices. The numbers connote levels of protection from various elements. In this case, the number "6" indicates complete dust-protection or dust-tightness. This rating means that a given product permits no ingress of dust or sand, regardless of hours of exposure.

The second number refers to a degree of water resistance. A rating of seven means water resistance to one meter for up to 30 minutes. It also means your lights function properly in heavy rain or moist conditions.

Are high-low beams more efficient than other lights?

High-low, or hi-lo, are just different, offering their own unique features and benefits. They can consist of an upper and lower light, or one light that you can adjust to cast upper or lower beams.

With some hi-lo beams, the upper beam tends to be brighter than the lower beam. You use the high beam when driving in darkness, low-light conditions, and at times of low visibility.

Since lower beams tend to be less bright than upper beams, experts advise switching to your lower beams when you are in the vicinity of other vehicles on the road.

What is the correct color temperature?

Color temperatures do not indicate the quality or suitability of a headlight for your Ford Expedition. They merely describe the headlights color and appearance. Because bulbs emit varying degrees of heat, the emitted heat range changes the appearance and color of the headlight. Color temperature measures this emitted heat in Kelvin, an international form of heat measurement.

Color temperature measurements of 2,000 to 3,000K connote a warm white headlight or a headlight with a golden tinge. For a cool white headlight, shoot for a color temperature of 3,100 to 4,500K. A headlight with a color temperature of 4,500K or above resembles daylight in its various degrees of brightness. Most headlights have color temperatures of at least 4,000K.

Can you buy headlights made by other companies?

Although there are plenty of replacement Expedition headlights manufactured by Ford, there are other brands of headlights that fit the Expedition, such as Philips, Auto DN, Putco, Icebeamer, Depo Auto Parts, and Autofeel.

What are conversion kits?

Conversion kits let you convert the current headlights on your Ford Expedition into another type. This type may be a different kind of headlight or a different arrangement. There is a conversion kit for every type of headlight, such as LED, halogen, and xenon.

There are also hi-lo beam conversion kits that let you convert one beam into two separate beams or to adjust a single beam for hi-lo beam usage.
