Duracell D Single-Use Batteries

Duracell Inc. is the producer of Duracell D batteries, which are known for their signature Coppertop design. D batteries are a fairly common battery size, used for a variety of applications. Duracell offers several different packs to purchase batteries in this size.

What are Duracell battery types?

There are two types of Duracell D batteries. These include Duracell Coppertop batteries as well as Duracell Quantum batteries. These are both alkaline battery types, but they have one distinct difference. Coppertop alkaline batteries are the most traditional type of Duracell battery. Quantum D batteries are made with Hi-Density CoreTM technology for a different type of power. You can purchase both battery types in a pack according to how many batteries you desire. Coppertop batteries are available in packs of 2, 4, or as many as 14 batteries, while Quantum alkaline batteries come in a pack of 3, 5, 6, or 10 batteries.

What is the correct method for battery disposal?

Duracell stopped constructing their cells with mercury in 1990. This fact means that batteries by this brand are safe to dispose of as you would any other trash item. However, the most ideal way to handle exhausted units is to take them to a recycling drop-off. Duracell partnered with Call2Recycle in order to provide as many convenient drop-offs as possible. There are no mandates that require universal recycling systems, so the responsibility of finding a location lies directly in the consumers hands.

If the battery leaks, how should I clean it up?

It is not uncommon for a battery to leak within a device. This can look like a white, off-white, or slightly brown crusted material, or sometimes it can appear powdery. If this occurs, the device isnt ruined, but the residue does need to be removed from the battery before the product is used again. To clean a battery leak:

  • Work in a well-ventilated area and wear gloves.
  • Mix together 1 tablespoon of boric acid with 1 gallon of water or mix equal parts vinegar or lemon juice with water.
  • Dip a Q-tip or toothbrush into the mixture.
  • Scrub the electrical parts in the battery compartment until residue is entirely removed.
  • Let the device completely dry before using again and before placing new batteries into it.
How should you store D-size batteries?

Alkaline D batteries should be stored in a dry and cool environment, away from extreme temperatures. Avoid refrigerating the cells or leaving them where they could become hot.
