Confusing array of icons on all screens. Good video and audio with a newer Fire stick
This was a real hassle to set up and use until I figured out that my older Firestick was the issue. I had purchased a "gen II?" Firestick for another room but was trying to set things up with the one I already had on my main TV, which doesn't have the ability to turn the TV off and on or adjust the volume as the later ones have. But that wasn't the root of the problem. It was the communication between the older Firestick and the Recast which kept coming and going with delays and slow response. Once I tried the new stick I found the video, audio and response was markedly improved. I was about ready to send the Recast back and would have appreciated some intel about using it with an older Firestick. Now, we are just learning it. What I don't like: When fast forwarding through a recorded program, you can't eaisly tell where you are like the DirecTV presentation. So it's a lot of going back and forth using either the fast forward buttons or voice commands, like "Fast forward 30 seconds" "rewind 20 seconds" etc. It's a bit clunky finding your recorded programs. I liked the DirecTV "list" function which just shows you all the programs you have recorded and that's it. The screen on the Fire TV Recast is full of lots of other icons once you figure out where you can find your recordings. The font is so small on them it's hard to read from your normal viewing position. At least for a geezer like my wife and I. When we select a recorded program to watch, it's kind of a crapshoot whether we will drop into the middle of the recorded program or at the beginning, which is the logical place to start. Once in the program we sometimes can find a "watch from the beginning command" or not. When it's a "not" we have to figure out how to rewind rapidly back to the beginning. Which it does well but still takes lots of time. Then when we want to delete a recording we have watched I'd like a faster way to get to the delete command. Too many options first. For my guest bedroom, I'm not even going to get a Firestick for it because of the confusing at times learning curve which neither my guests nor I am willing to address. I just put up a window-mounted indoor TV antenna and now my guests can choose between the 20+ offerings there and never screw up what we've recorded on the Recast. I'd like a faster and less clunky way to have it not show the channels I know I'll never watch, such as those just trying to sell me something or in a language I can't understand. Maybe that's a function of my TV or maybe it's a part of the FireTV programming. I'm still not sure if I've managed to get it set up because I'm still finding the unwanted programs on my channel guide. To sum it up a little, I think Amazon is more interested in presenting lots of options, most of which I don't want, on their screens instead of being able to customize at least one of them to show only the things I do the most. Like watch recorded programs. That's why I bought the thing in the first place.

No more cable!!!
We were so sick of how much we paid for cable and how little they offer for the price you pay. Thought we'd try the Amazon Fire Stick and the Amazon Fire TV Recast so we could still record shows to watch later if we were busy at the time of broadcast. Quick note: You have to have the Fire Stick for the Recast to work. I had a little trouble setting up the Recast, but Amazon Tech Support was awesome! They called me back right away and had me up and running in no time. The Fire Stick was having a little trouble finding the Recast, so all I had to do was restart the Fire Stick in the "Settings" menu. Piece of cake. Between Amazon's programming and Netflix, I won't be running out of shows/movies to watch any time soon. They both add new programming frequently as well. The Recast also allows you to connect an over-the-air t.v. antenna so you can get your local channels which show up in the menu. It even shows you what is on instead of just listing the channel number. And of course, you are able to record up to two channels at once with the 2 tuner version of the Recast (they also offer a 4 tuner version). I have recorded to the Recast and it works seamlessly. Setting up and removing a program from the recording schedule is way easier than it was with our cable dvr also. One other feature I really like is that I can control everything from the Recast remote control except for switching the input to play on Xbox. Couldn't be happier with the Recast!

Great for limiting/bypassing commercials and watching over air programming on your schedule.
I am happy with this purchase with a few caveats. I found this device a bit tricky to setup but not overtly so. If I was to purchase again, I would probably buy the 1TB, 4 tuner unit so that I could save and view more broadcasts simultaneously. The biggest issue I have with this unit is the software for accessing the broadcasts. In order to use the interface, you first have to select DVD and then go to "recast" program directory. It would be nice if there was more control to set defaults at power up and to provide the abiltity show, reordered, remove or hide stations. It would also be nice if the commercials could be skipped automatically or with a single button press.

Recast not perfect but still best in the game.
The recast isn't a perfect product but it's better than anything I've seen on the market. I really don't understand why Amazon didn't spend more time to perfect this product instead of abandoning it's consumers who purchased it. I havent been able to get video to work on my phone, but I didn't buy it for that so this wasn't an issue for me. Works great on all my fire tvs.

Get your local TV here.
I can't believe Amazon cancelled these devices. I just bought my second one, just in case my first one dies. If you are in the FireTV ecosystem then this puts local TV on all of your in house TV's running the FireOS. I love it. So easy. Exactly what TIVO should have done. They work great.

Fire TV Recast is easy to setup and use.
This was very easy to setup and it can be place anywhere in the house because it isn't wired to your TV set. Uses WiFi to communicate with the Fire TV or Stick.

Setting up a little confusing.
Setting up using confusing phone APP took a little time, and had to be repeated. Once up and running performs well. I do not record so don't know how that feature works.

good to have, works as advertised
Glad to have it for recording through my antenna and the added feature of the tv listing menu. Wish it would record other Live TV through apps like Pluto.

Easy Set Up and Finds More Channels
DVR brings in more stations than what my antenna brings in. It is also easy to set up to record shows.
