What You Need to Know About Acer Convertible Tablets

A convertible computer, also known as a 2-in-1, is a cross between a laptop and a tablet. A convertible tablet's ultraportable form factor makes it easy to carry important aspects of your life with you wherever you go. You can use this device for work and play.

A 2-in-1 computer is similar in appearance to a tablet, but in other respects, it resembles a laptop. It is equipped with a desktop operating system, extra input and output ports, and a detachable or foldable keyboard. The keyboard allows the device to be placed in different modes. When you remove the keyboard or fold it behind the screen, the device resembles a tablet, and the touchscreen is the only means of interaction with the computer. When you attach the keyboard, the Acer resembles a sub-notebook, which is a smaller, lighter version of a full-sized laptop. Another way of operating the device is to partially fold the keyboard back and stand the device on a surface. This mode allows you to watch videos or interact with the touchscreen while freeing up both of your hands.

There are several 2-in-1 models available, including the Acer Aspire Switch, the Iconia Tab W500, and the Iconia W510 and W700. Despite a few significant differences, Aspire and Iconia 2-in-1 models share several features in common, including:

• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
• Front and rear cameras
• Solid-state drives
• HDMI ports
• USB ports

With the exception of the AMD-based Iconia Tab W500, all models are powered by either an Intel Atom or Intel Core processor. Most models also have a microSD card slot for additional storage. When choosing a 2-in-1, consider the specs of the processor, the amount of internal storage space available, and the resolution of the screen; some models have as much as 1080p resolution.

The typical 2-in-1 computer will have either a TFT or IPS display. TFT stands for thin-film transistor. The transistors act as switches that can turn each individual pixel on or off. In practical terms, a TFT display can improve the image quality by controlling the attributes of individual pixels. IPS, which stands for in-plane switching, is a type of LCD display that tends to maintain consistent viewability regardless of the viewing angle.
